My 'Only Way is Up' quilt came about during a week of lockdown. I dug into my scraps bin & began making these fun, easy, colourful blocks. The array of different block designs, & different colour combinations, keeps the making fun & interesting.
 
The finished size of this quilt is 168cm (66”) square, but you could easily adapt this pattern to be as big or small as you'd like.
 
I opted to create an ombré rainbow effect with my blocks, but there are many ways that you can make this quilt your own:
you could make all of the blocks in one colourway e.g. you might opt to make them in blues – from the softest baby blue through to an inky midnight blue
you could make the blocks super scrappy & mix the colours & prints altogether in each block – giving it a similar feel to my ‘Everything Goes’ pattern
you could even opt for a striking monotone design in blacks & whites.
 
 
The 'Only Way is Up' quilt is a relatively easy make, with basic patchwork skills required - you just need to be able to cut straight, sew an accurate 1/4" seam & follow the instructions.
 
My quilt features an array of different designers - Kaffe Fassett Collective, Alison Glass, Cotton+Steel, Amy Butler, Tula Pink, Libs Elliot & even some Liberty lawn prints (they were teeny tiny 3” scraps that I couldn’t bring myself to throw away!). It truly is a great scrap buster, using pieces as small as 21⁄2”. Dig into your scraps & stash, & mix your fabrics up – the greater the variety of fabrics you use, the better the overall finish will be.
